What's the secret to making your best swing? That's simple. Give the golf club to Tiger Woods and step back. Two new videos take the mind and body approach, respectively, to turning duffers into masters of the links. Make Your Most Confident Stroke, presented by sports psychologist Dr. Patrick Cohn, spends at least 1/5th of its 38 minutes talking about Dr. Cohn and his books, audiocassettes, seminars, and personalized instruction, making the advertisement to content ratio a mite irritating. The content, such as it is, outlines the "seven keys" to being a great putter (great putters see themselves as great putters, are confident, trust their strokes, and trust their decisions--am I repeating myself here? Nope, those are four of the seven keys). The program also covers 8 important steps to confident putting and four drills (which are a little more tangible), but these useful segments are outweighed by the repetition and product hawking. Not a necessary purchase. Aud: P.The Swing Reaction System, on the other hand, presented by sports medicine physical therapist Neal Chasan, is an excellent guide to training golf-specific muscles, which, in turn, will lead to more power for distance (you don't have to go into your swing with a cold gluteus maximus; and it's the butt that drives the ball), and greater control for better accuracy. Clear, spiffy graphics demonstrate the three planes (sagital, frontal, and transverse) which the swing travels through, and a host of exercises are demonstrated to work the relevant muscles. The exercises, such as "The Golf Lunge" and the poetically-termed "Butt Burner", are demonstrated during the body of the video and explained, and the entire regimen is repeated at the end of the program. Even if you don't manage 300-plus yard drives, you'll still have some very sexy-looking hamstrings. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
