Recently, the exterior stone facade of my apartment building was given a makeover with sandblasting, a process very similar to microdermabrasion, in which micronized aluminum oxide crystals are blasted against the skin's surface to reduce the appearance of blemishes, scars, and wrinkles--essentially buffing the outer epidermal layer, leaving it smoother and softer looking. Although long practiced in Europe and Asia, the FDA did not approve this treatment--which is today the latest rage in cosmetic dermatology--until 1996. Designed specifically with the skin care professional in mind, and intended as a refresher course, Microdermabrasion: The Professional's Guide discusses the microdermabrasion process, including tools and application, and also explores ways to successfully market this service. Specific topics include: anatomy and physiology of the skin; skin analysis techniques; specialized acne treatments; the physiological effects of treatment; equipment selection, care, and maintenance; benefits and contraindications; and post treatment skin care. A well-organized, informative video geared toward the clinician, this would also be useful viewing for anyone considering the treatment for themselves. Highly recommended. Also available for $49.95 each: Lymphatic Massage: The Face, Lymphatic Massage: The Body, European Facial Techniques and Professional Pedicure Techniques. Aud: C, P. (J. Asala)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
