This introduction to several social media platforms (including Facebook and Twitter) is heavy on enthusiasm while taking care to point out potential pitfalls. The tips, clearly aimed at neophytes, include using proper spelling and grammar to make the best impression; granting virtual friends the same courtesies you would offer in real life (such as not tagging people in potentially embarrassing photos—or even posting such images in the first place); keeping in mind the fact that many employers commonly research online sites to learn more about prospective employees; AND REMEMBERING TO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS OR PEOPLE WILL THINK YOU ARE YELLING AT THEM! As the hosts say, “It's easy, it's free, and just about anyone can participate. What's not to love about social media?” But while the prevailing message here (which includes comments from media experts) is generally upbeat, the program also covers important topics such as privacy, personal branding, and cyber-bullying. Particularly helpful is a suggested acronym—THINK—to remember before posting: Is it True? Helpful? Inspiring? Necessary? And Kind? DVD extras include an instructor's guide. A solid introduction to the smart use of social media, this is highly recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P. (C. Block)
