Travel out into the desert darkness with award winning Utah-based photographer Dan Norris as he shows some exciting techniques for beautiful nighttime photography. Norris explains the value of shutter speed, F-stop, using flashlights and other external lighting to "paint" subjects, using moonlight and twilight glow for effect, placing the moon anywhere in a photograph through double exposure, secrets to making star trail and star point photographs and the best time of the night to shoot. Throughout the program, Norris uses the stark and stunningly beautiful landscapes and rock formations of Arches National Park to showcase these photo experiments. He also discusses a number of important tips, including tripod use, framing the subject, and choice of film and exposure time. Norris' presentation is relaxed, colorful and creative, filled with insightful and enjoyable information delivered by a man who really loves his work. Highly recommended for public libraries with intermediate to large photography collections. (J. Scholtz)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
