In the opening video of this comprehensive Spanish immersion program, viewers follow the lively, often humorous, story of Patrick, a Spanish-speaking resident of Boston, who is taking a trip to Mexico, and begins his journey sitting next to an obnoxious man who bores him silly with stupid comments and almost gets him arrested at customs. All of the conversations are in Spanish, and even people with a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish will have no trouble following the lessons that end each of the four segments. Not only does the program present Spanish as it is spoken in everyday situations, the videos feature dual-track closed captioning in both English and Spanish. Four successive videos (not seen) build on the lessons learned in the opening tape, while the five accompanying audiocassettes allow students to continue their instruction while driving or jogging. Unfortunately, the set also includes five workbooks (also not seen) containing the entire script, as well as over 300 supplementary exercises that are referred to in the videos, making this otherwise heartily recommended series an optional choice for the multiple-user settings of high school, academic and pubic libraries.
