"Music comes from heaven but pianos are made right here on earth." This video seems filled with these sentimental quips, as well as non-specific advice like "exercise caution when buying a used piano" and "buy the best piano you can afford." Piano Buyer's Guide points out a few distinguishing features of pianos, and then spills over into how to choose a piano teacher and how not to make your kid into a music megalomaniac. But the accompanying booklet actually covers all the worthwhile information presented in the video, and it alone is not worth $19.95. And while the program does survey types of pianos, it did not prepare me to go out and spar with a piano salesperson. Music may come from heaven, but this video didn't. Not a must-have. (A. Laker)
