Showing respect for others through simple courtesy and etiquette can be a rather nebulous concept for young teens, especially those who haven't had good role models. Recognizing that respect is a learned behavior, Respect Rules serves up an interesting combination of practical suggestions (“make eye contact”) together with touchy-feely maxims (“an act of kindness is never wasted”). Since many kids aren't even aware of the fact when they're being rude, the program begins by addressing signs of disrespect at school, home, or work (interrupting others, being whiny or sarcastic with parents, asking nosy or insensitive questions, etc.), as well as examining other situations such as social or sports events. Dismissing tired excuses (“I'm having a bad day!” or “Just take me as I am!”), this video reminds viewers that there's a good reason the so-called Golden Rule--treat others as you would like to be treated--has survived over the centuries: it works. Recommended. Aud: J, H. (E. Gieschen)
