After undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, Dinah Kukes lost her hair. Not happy with wigs, she began experimenting with scarves. The results, which she shares with viewers, in this enlightening and instructive video, are indeed a "fashionable alternative." Kukes begins by discussing the principles of scarf selection: size (for her there's no such thing as a scarf that's too big), color, and type of fabric. Armed with bandannas and scarves, Kukes demonstrates a wide variety of tying techniques, and offers suggestions for all kinds of social situations: casual, formal, and sports activities (including the tricky ski lodge). In addition to advice on accessories, there is an extensive section devoted to make-up for the chemotherapy patient. Good humored, inspirational, and thorough in its instruction, Dinah Kukes' Scarves: A Fashionable Alternative is a wonderful video. The second title, Scarves: lie Into a Great Look, is one of the most professional looking "home videos" we've ever seen. Broken down into several categories ("Dressed to the Nines," "Casual Touch," "Off the Rack," "Around the Clock," etc.), the program has a fashion model demonstrating over 25 creative scarf-tying techniques. The point that is being extremely well made here is that scarves are colorful, inexpensive accessories that will not only make the wearer look more fashionable, but will also serve to extend the wardrobe. Both titles are highly recommended. (Scarves: A Fashionable Alternative is available from: Dinah Kukes, 2237 North Shore Road, Bellingham, WA 98226.) (Scarves: Tie Into a Great Look is available from most distributors.)
