This is a good, if somewhat dated, primer on shooting home videos. Host Ken Atkinson begins with a solid overview of the basic types of camcorders (VHS, 8mm, and VHSC), and then gives a detailed explanation of the controls on a basic VHS camcorder. The second half of the program looks at specific situations: videotaping plays, weddings, sporting events, birthdays, Christmas mornings, etc. Suggestions about lighting, focus, and picture composition are offered for each segment by technical consultant Bob McEwan (former lighting director for NBC Nightly News and The Today Show). Although today's camcorders carry many more features than those shown in the program, these mainly fall into the bells and whistles categories; the basics of shooting home video have not changed a whole lot. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
