Wallpapering is a lot like men's haircutting: not really noteworthy unless it's done badly. And it seems the potential for doing it badly is at least as high as my ceiling and hanging cupboards. Further, there are descriptions of how to do it in this video which did not give me an air of confidence, phrases like, "The drywall joint compound is not strong enough to bridge a gap of a fraction of an inch and relies on the seam repair tape to prevent cracking; if you put the joint compound in the crack without the seam repair tape it will eventually crack..." I strongly believe that if I followed this instruction to the letter, my neighbors would soon see me running from the house, covered in glue, flapping wallpaper wings like one of those archival films about the early history of aviation. And that's not all. Here's what you need to perform adequate wallpaper hanging without inviting severe ridicule or possible litigation: putty knives, paint scrapers, seam rollers, water trays, snap blade knives, smoothing brushes, a bucket of joint cement, buckets of drywall, buckets of wallpaper paste, vinyl to vinyl adhesive--in short, enough stuff that you'll need a separate room to store it, which will, of course, have to be wallpapered, and the whole thing becomes a sort of vicious circle until a decision is made regarding the possibilities of wood paneling. Now I realize that 95% of the human world is handier than I, and I admit that wallpapering is one of those necessities in life, so for those who are not put off by "drywall joint compounds" and all their attendant horrors, this video is well presented, intelligently constructed, made to look relatively easy, and therefore recommended.
