This guide to babysitting places the emphasis on emergencies: a fireman points out potential pitfalls, a police officer offers safety tips, and viewers are advised what to do in the event of a medical crisis, in addition to being counseled in which toys could pose dangers. Minor dilemmas are touched on too, like how to change a diaper, how to handle misbehavior, crying infants, and bath time. This is all important, of course, but most teen sitters won't have to handle these situations as often as the more typical problems of negotiating bedtimes, sibling arguments, shy toddlers, and cleaning up messes. Tips for coloring and how to pretend to lose at Candyland would have been a welcome addition. Recommended for public libraries without similar fare, such as Babysitting 101: Your Complete Guide to Becoming the Best Babysitter!, Baby-Sitting 101: The Basics and Beyond or Teenager's Guide to Successful Babysitting (all reviewed in VL-1/98). Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
