This three tape series utilizes the immersion method of learning; meaning that viewers will, for the most part, hear only Spanish (English is only occasionally used to clarify a grammatical point). Although disorienting initially, one does begin to get the general hang of what's being said after a short time. Two instructors lead a small group of students in learning: (1st video) greetings, personal adjectives, place nouns, a handful of verbs, and the verb "to be"; (2nd video) verb endings, days and months, relatives, and rooms in a house; (3rd video) words and phrases which will be useful for making travel arrangements. At the end of each tape, a progress test is given, with the answers (as well as the vocabulary and translation used in the programs) included in a 48-page study guide. While the production values are only fair, the serious student would be likely to get very nearly the equivalent of a first year Spanish course from this intensive series. Recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
