From the producers of Fall Color: Trees of the Eastern Forests (VL-11/93), this new entry in a projected multi-tape series introduces viewers to 100 lovely spring flowers indigenous to the Eastern forests. Members of the Buttercup, Purslane (Spring Beauty), Lily (Clinton's Lily, Devil's Bit), Fumewort (Dutchman's Breeches), Mustard, Orchid, and many other families are represented. Each numbered flower is shown accompanied by brief voice-over commentary, and viewers can follow along with the built-in booklet behind the video's cover which lists each of the flowers by both common and scientific name, and includes relevant vital statistics such as height, arrangement, size, sun/shade and moisture requirements, as well as ease of cultivation. While the "catalog" approach makes this of little value to general audiences, and it's questionable in this and similar cases whether a video is better than a book filled with color plates, the tape is well set-up for reference use, and is recommended for libraries who are building strong video reference collections. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
