Those with a Johnny Weismuller complex (that's pre-Tarzan Weismuller), will want to take several laps around the pool with Ironman triathlete Steve Tarpinian. Aimed at serious swimmers, Tarpinian's program is divided into three segments (technique, training, and tips) which breaks down freestyle swimming into analyzable chunks, outlines a solid workout based on interval training, and offers some pointers on swimming etiquette. Swim Power truly utilizes the video medium, with lots of slow-motion, instant replay, "home video" clips pointing out mistakes to learn from, and an excellent movement-by-movement study of the freestyle stroke. Viewers are even encouraged to video tape their own swimming so they can make adjustments to their style (they're also encouraged to send their videos in for a "critique" for a fee--the one advertisement on the tape, although it's presented very low-key). Libraries with larger sports collections should definitely consider adding this. Recommended. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
