An accessible down-to-earth program offering new parents commonsense wisdom for communicating and connecting with their babies, The Baby Whisperer: Volume 1 is based on the New York Times best-selling author and host Tracy Hogg's book Secrets of the Baby Whisperer. Amiable ‘whisperer' Hogg covers a wide range of subjects--from baby's homecoming, first bath, changing diapers, and quiet time (for the baby and for mom and dad) to breastfeeding basics, bottle formulas, and answers to age-old questions, such as "will you spoil a crying baby if you pick him up?” (with the rather shocking response of "never leave a baby to cry”). Interestingly enough, Hogg began her career as a registered nurse for the mentally handicapped in England, specializing in children with severe disabilities, where she cultivated and finely honed her wonderful understanding of nonverbal gestures and cues--the perfect language for babies. The DVD special features include subtitle options in English or Spanish, a lullaby music video, a ‘color palette' describing attributes of various colors (red, for example, can over-stimulate a baby), a biography of Hogg, and two very informative Q&A segments between Hogg and a group of parents. Highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (N. Plympton)
