Parents and teachers know that some children simply can't be “bought” with treats and rewards into exhibiting acceptable behavior. Children reach the explosive and non-compliant point from many different pathways--ADHD, social impairments, language processing difficulty, mood/anxiety disorders, or simply having a difficult temperament. Not being able to keep up with their peers (in behavior or academics) leads to frustration, which in turn leads to misbehavior. In this seminar/workshop presentation, author Ross Greene, Ph.D. (who has appeared on several popular TV shows, such as Oprah, Good Morning America, and Dateline NBC), reminds parents that the key to working with non-compliant children is to help them recognize and manage the escalating stages in their frustration levels. Offering practical advice for desperate couples, this is also an excellent resource for those classroom teachers and education school professors who still think bribery is the solution to dealing with these children. Though judicious editing would have improved this lengthy presentation, this is still highly recommended for public libraries and universities. Aud: C, P. (R. Reagan)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
