Presented in a seminar format, The Out-of-Sync Child aims to help parents and teachers understand Sensory Integration Dysfunction, a condition in which children exhibit over-sensitivity or under-sensitivity to touch, taste, sight, smell or sound. Carol Stock Kranowitz, M.A., author of the book of the same name, offers clues to aid caregivers in recognizing the various ways the syndrome presents itself, outlines how SID affects children, and shares drug-free suggestions for adapting the home and school environment to best serve the needs of these children. Although watching someone present from a podium for an hour and a half gets somewhat tiresome, Kranowitz serves up a good solid overview at an informational level appropriate even for parents with no background in educational psychology. A solid addition to any collection, especially those that support education curriculum, this is recommended. Aud: C, P. (L. Stevens)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
