Catering to one of public librarianship's most common requests, this tape discusses 40 different dog breeds in alphabetical order, from the Airedale terrier to the Yorkshire terrier. While showing each type of dog at work, play, and rest, various breeders explain each dog's history, exercise and grooming needs, life expectancy, training malleability, shedding schedules, personalities, compatibility with children, and household requirements. At the end of each segment is a graphic that provides the dog's average height and size, brushing and exercise requisites, and personality traits. Occasionally these written traits do not match the dog as described by the breeder: for instance, I've never really thought of a Doberman as primarily "affectionate and sensitive," but the experts themselves are straightforward about the pros and cons of their pets. Highly recommended as an adjunct to written materials on this topic, which have the ability to provide side-by-side charted comparisons between dog breeds. Aud: P. (K. Glaser)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
