Since I never passed 5'2", any hopes for strutting the catwalk were dashed at a young age, but for those less vertically challenged, The Runway to Success: A Complete Guide to Modeling, hosted by international runway model Shailah Edmonds, purports to offer up secrets for a successful modeling career ("where there's a will, there's a runway!"). While some of the information is indeed valuable--viewers will learn how to walk, pivot, and turn, as well as the proper way to remove a jacket or wear a scarf--the video is unfortunately limited by subpar production qualities and poor editing choices. In fact, the majority of the program simply consists of Shailah sitting behind a desk, very obviously reading cue cards. While the regimen is broken up with a few interesting interviews with people in the industry, other segments are less effective: when discussing the importance of exercise, Shailah breaks off to share her personal routine--somewhat outside the topic; her makeup session is more of a product endorsement; and the "sample" modeling interview, featuring a model from Hong Kong, deals mostly with her visa status--not an issue for most prospective viewers. A better choice here would be Model's Boot Camp (VL-1/00). Not recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (J. Asala)
