Given that transitioning to high school is difficult enough for the general teen populace--who face a new building, new teachers, and new peers--imagine the additional hardships that a child with attention deficit disorder or another learning disability must face. Meant to be a blueprint for helping such students achieve success in high school and beyond, this well-designed program utilizes an unscripted interview format with five students who candidly discuss how their specific disabilities hindered their own transition (while "flashbacks" of the same students interviewed two years before help us better understand the progress each has made). Viewers will gain a solid grounding in different styles of learning, be introduced to strategies and technologies to help compensate for a disability, be advised on self-esteem issues, and learn the steps in the transition process (and why it is important to be a strong self-advocate). Recommended for junior high, senior high, and public libraries, the program includes a teacher/facilitator discussion guide, self-advocacy handbook, and student work guide. Aud: J, H, P. (J. Asala)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
