Geared for the 9-12th grade age group, Dr. Gary Gruber's Up Your Grades presents methods for cracking standardized tests, including the ACT, PSAT, SAT, and GRE exams. A 225-page notebook containing a general refresher section, vocabulary basics and a math review accompanies the two videotapes covering the verbal and mathematical portions of the tests, respectively, making this more of a multimedia kit (public libraries take note) than a stand-alone video program. On the tapes, Gruber serves up examples of the types of problems found in the tests, offers students strategies for solving each problem (including eliminating “bad” answers), and then allows viewers to “test” their skills themselves, before finally explaining how he arrived at the correct answer. Although the cover of the product calls this the “S.A.T. edition,” the methods presented would be helpful for any of the standardized tests, and Gruber's humor and enthusiasm help to make what many students would consider a painful experience reasonably fun to watch. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
