Executive Chef Jim Coleman is a cookbook author and ubiquitous television presence. His latest venture is a series of video cookbooks aimed to "save you time and teach you how to experience and enjoy cooking." Using a rapid fire presentation, he demonstrates how to turn out a simple meal of salad, steak, veggies and dessert in just about an hour, explaining cooking terms and offering helpful suggestions along the way. Coleman encourages viewers to become organized in their culinary endeavors (though this is clearly a case of "do as I say, not as I do," since he moves from task to task, back and forth between different dishes). No haute cuisine here (romano cheese and garlic powder in the mashed potatoes), but this program should encourage those bravehearts who are ready to take a step beyond microwaving popcorn and will certainly appeal to "food as show biz" fans of the Food Channel. A strong optional purchase. Aud: P. (J. Reed)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
