Landscape artist/author Stephen Quiller is the instructor for this pair of videotapes which demonstrate various water media techniques. In both programs, Quiller begins by discussing the mediums, their similarities and differences, and then demonstrates a number of techniques for achieving transparent, translucent, and opaque effects, either singly or by combining the mediums. In the Acrylic and Casein program, Quiller goes on location to do a preliminary sketch of the beautiful Rancho de Taos church in New Mexico; while in Watercolor and Gouache, Quiller sketches a beaver dam on an idyllic pond. While the instruction is generally good, Quiller often seems uncomfortable in front of the camera--and this detracts a bit from his teaching. Otherwise, these programs--which feature good video and audio qualities--are recommended. (Available from: Crystal Productions, 1812 Johns Dr., Glenview, IL 60025.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
