In West African Dances, host/instructor Abdoulaye Camara introduces and teaches four traditional dances from Guinea and the surrounding area with thumbnail histories of the music and the steps: the Yolé, Kuku, Tiriba, and Mandiani, as well as a fifth dance, the Telefone, that was invented in Camara's kitchen, but stylistically fits with the others. For all five dances Nikola Clay joins Camara for the “back view” demonstration of the steps, with Camara handling the front view, both accompanied by music that is upbeat and reminiscent of styles more familiar in the West like Juju and Highlife. A fine dance instruction video that is also easily adaptable as an exercise program, this is recommended. Aud: P. (M. Tribby)
