Whatever It Takes is a so-so self-defense program with a strong emphasis on paranoia. Other new releases include: Learn to Rag Crochet, Vol. 2: Rag Crochet Rugs *** ($19.95), which is a good crafts "how-to" for budding seamstresses (and seamsters); Getting Connected ***1/2 ($29.95) and The Internet Boot Camp ***1/2 ($29.95), which are both excellent guides to beginning computing and beginning net surfing, respectively (however, they're more set up for use by individuals with a fair number of commercials in each, and The Internet Boot Camp includes two disks with Windows-based software [Eudora, Winsock, TCPMAN, etc.] with the instruction built around the commercial web browser NetScape. Great purchases for individuals-questionable for libraries); Hometown to Hollywood ***1/2 ($19.95) is one of the best guides for parents of aspiring actors and actresses we've seen (and one of the interviewees is Tony Dow, fondly remembered as Wally in Leave It to Beaver); a pair of good and gentle exercise videos--Ageless Fitness: Fresh Start *** ($19.95) and Ageless Fitness: Fresh Start 2 *** ($19.95) featuring instructor Dian Nissen-Ramirez working out with a group that includes her mother and father; the latter, eighty-something, performs an incredible hand stand which is worth the price of admission in inspirational value all by itself. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
