Barbara Peterson Davis, MS, MFA, Olympics dance coach, along with her daughter Coral, are the instructors in this fast-paced workout for mothers and children between the ages of 2-5. An incredible amount is compressed into this 22-minute program. Under the heading of "Activities", for example, the child learns: Dance, Gymnastics, Stretching, Hopping, Skipping Balancing, Jumping, Galloping, Rolling, Crawling, Singing, Reciting Poems, and Interaction/Pretending (whatever that means). There's more. "Concepts" include: High/Low, Over/Under, Circles/Curves, Follow/Lead, Body Parts, and nine others. And there are "Benefits": Sharing, Strength, Self-Esteem, Right/Left Brain Interaction, Bi-Lateral Coordination. Believe it or not, except for the last few psychological bits of jargon, all of the above is featured in about a third of an hour. How they do it? Simple. Coral runs her baby booty off, until she grows understandably tired and rather bored; then--although the filmmakers don't acknowledge if there's an edit, and a fresh Coral returns full of vim and vigor. The usual bane of exercise videos is monotony with a capital "M"; this tape errs in the other direction by trying to deliver too much in too little time. The concept is admirable, but the execution would be difficult for an adult to follow, let alone a child. In this area, Sue Zaliouk and the Fun Dance Kids is a much better choice. Not recommended.
