Instructor Evamarie Pilipuf holds a degree in “exercise physiology,” three separate certifications from the American Council on Exercise and another as a yoga teacher, boasts a performance and choreography repertoire that seems to include every dance step except Riverdancing, and can quote both Thoreau and Emerson. Although she sounds a little overqualified to teach basic yoga, Pilipuf appears to enjoy her work, and does provide easy-to-follow instruction here in a variety of outdoors settings (including an amusing monologue while sitting in a tree). Although filming in these out-of-the-way natural settings tends to point up the rather mediocre production qualities, the instruction itself as solid, as Pilipuf covers all the classic yoga postures in “Section 1: The Workout,” a near-hour regimen that stays mindful of correct breathing and proper technique, followed by “Section 2: Bonus Tips and Information,” which addresses frequently asked questions, and offers tips on substituting everyday household items for some of the more costly yoga aids on the market. With the plethora of yoga tapes available, this one is notable for being a little off the beaten path (both literally and figuratively) and is therefore recommended. Aud: P. (N. Plympton)
