For those who like their wrestling rendered in claymation, episodes from the bizarre MTV series Celebrity Deathmatch are now available on home video in two volumes, appropriately titled Round 1 and Round 2. Each deathmatch features a pair of celebrities in a no-holds-barred wrestling match. The premise is definitely off-the-wall and comes to us courtesy of creator/director Eric Fogel, one of the inventive minds interviewed in a behind-the-scenes extra included in the Round 1 video. Each tape includes six deathmatches. Round 1 opens with a heavy-duty tussle between Hillary Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Payback time for the First Lady, sports fans. Other bouts pit Jerry Seinfeld against Tim Allen, Prince Charles against The Artist Formerly Known as Prince and Mariah Carey vs. Jim Carrey. Round 2 opens with a titanic battle royal: The Loch Ness Monster vs. Bigfoot. Hang in there for Mick Jagger against Steven Tyler, David Letterman vs. Jay Leno and, thanks to an alleged software error, Bill Gates vs. The Lord of the Dance himself, Michael Flatley. Too weird. Every match is a potential bloodbath, so this is not kiddie fare. Recommended for video fans who enjoy their animated wit and irony leavened with a bit of surreal violence. (P. Van Vleck)
