Twelve-year-old middle-schooler Hibari craves the newest craze: a computer pet that adapts to what the owner teaches it. After a literal prince of her dreams presents her with Densuke, her own pet PataPi, Hibari finds herself in an alley facing the villainous Blood Falcon and her mecha, and Densuke transforms into an armored and empowered alter-superhero: an Anime Mundi. Repeat the aforementioned transformation with two more girls and their cyber-pets; mix in a shady school principal, some mud monsters, and the prince's evil twin; toss in some laughs and a dose of "cute"; and, voila!, you have Cyber Team in Akihabara, an intermittently entertaining if also completely formulaic action-comedy series. Cyber Genesis collects the first five episodes, during which the team is assembled and named. Rated 13-up, this dual-language disc is an optional purchase for collections where Sailor Moon is popular. [Note: Cyber Team in Akihabara, Vol. 2 is also available, with Vol. 3 slated for release on Mar. 8.] Aud: P. (J. Halsall)
