The 17 episodes of the 2000-01 season collected here find Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) attending New York University for a third year and still trying to hang on to her high-school flame, Ben Covington (Scott Speedman). In the season opener, she ditches girlfriends and potential roommates Julie (Amy Jo Johnson) and Elena (Tangi Miller) to live in a rundown Brooklyn apartment with Ben, although close friend and former lover Noel Crane (Scott Foley) is still in the picture, and ensuing installments present a dizzying succession of romantic, personal, and professional entanglements. Written in a more realistic style than most young adult dramas, Felicity deals with a variety of issues and events in addition to the expected couplings, including substance abuse, gun violence, and even a Manhattan blackout. The cast is uniformly excellent, with Russell continuing to amaze in the leading role. No longer the winsome naïf of the first season but not quite the resourceful, commanding figure she'd like to be, Felicity still grapples with the complexities of young adulthood and the responsibilities unexpectedly thrust upon her. DVD extras include cast commentaries about specific episodes, and a funny, Mad TV parody of the series. (E. Hulse)
