The words "enough of this warmth junk" are actually uttered in the pilot episode of Full House, one of the signature series of ABC's "TGIF" block of family-friendly shows. But resistance is futile. If the "aww" moments, group hugs, and "we need to stick together" heart-to-hearts don't get you, then the scene-stealing Olsen twins, sharing the role of baby Michelle, will. And then there's the surefire comedy of three clueless men trying to navigate parenthood, dirty diapers, chickenpox, sibling rivalry, and kindergarten. Bob Saget stars as recently widowed Danny Tanner, who recruits his brother-in-law, aspiring musician Jesse (mullet-maned John Stamos), and comedian wannabe Joey (Dave Coulier), to move in and help raise his daughters: 10-year-old D.J. (Candace Cameron), five-year-old Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and the infant Michelle. Future "tyke-oons" Mary-Kate and Ashley eventually became the series' breakout stars, but in this 22-episode inaugural 1987-88 season, Sweetin is the go-to girl for adorable antics and precocious punch lines ("Nobody asked me"). A guilty nostalgic pleasure that, thanks to Nick at Nite, has found a welcome home with a new generation, Full House: The Complete First Season bows on a four-disc set, with DVD extras that include the original unaired pilot episode, commentary by creator Jeff Franklin on the episodes “Our Very First Show” and “Mad Money,” and a fast-fact subtitle track on the episode “The Miracle of Thanksgiving.” Recommended.
