Based out of NYC, the buoyant Dirty Sock Funtime Band makes their DVD debut in this excellent compilation that includes three episodes from their PBS-aired TV series, along with eight music videos, and a bonus seven-track audio CD. Combining live-action, puppets, animation, and seriously catchy grooves, the high-energy program kicks off with “The Treasure of Pirate Bligh,” following lead singer Mike Messer and guitarist Stephen Jacobs on a silly treasure map hunt that includes a visit to a factory and songs such as “Donut Brain Aliens” and “Music Everywhere.” Also including “Stephen and the Search for the Cuddly Cat,” the compilation ends with “The Surprise Party,” in which the gang tries to keep Mike out of the clubhouse so they don't ruin his birthday surprise (songs include “I Love It,” the bluesy woe-is-me tune “I Feel Trageriffic,” and “No Good Reason Party”). Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
