Originally broadcast in 2007 by SPIKE TV, the critically acclaimed miniseries The Kill Point centers on a well-planned bank heist that goes spectacularly wrong. John Leguizamo plays an Iraq War veteran, called “Mr. Wolf,” who mobilizes some of his ex-platoon members in order to stage a daring robbery that culminates in a deadly shootout. Unable to escape, however, the five robbers retreat into the bank, where they hold both employees and customers hostage. Tough-as-nails hostage negotiator Horst Cali (Donnie Wahlberg) is tasked with bringing the crisis to a peaceful resolution, but his efforts are undermined by a ruthless millionaire (Tobin Bell), who has his own plan to free his captive daughter—even if it means risking the lives of others. While most viewers will find this covers familiar territory (Dog Day Afternoon, etc.), the story is reasonably well-handled, although not enough to justify the miniseries' eight-hour running time (the narrative is padded out with detailed characterizations of the robbers, police, and hostages, which has the unfortunate effect of diluting the suspense). DVD extras include cast interviews. Optional. (E. Hulse)
