It takes 32 screws to wed the body and chassis of a VW bug. But unless you're into this kind of truly arcane trivia, VW Bug: a Trip to Paradise won't offer you much in the way of entertainment or enlightenment. The slant here is on the VW industry in Mexico, where one out of every three cars built is a VW, and even some of the police chase dastardly criminals in their putt-putting beetles. Host Mariana Rodriguez takes viewers to both a dealership and a factory, faithfully describing all of the features of new VW bugs (without the slightest hint of irony or tongue-in-cheek) and offering a highlights tour of the construction of a beetle. Ultimately, you come away with the overall feeling that you've just watched a half-hour commercial for VW's. a pretty pointless program. Not recommended. (R. Pitman)
