Impressive human figure animation from the renowned Russian Soyuzmultfilm studio can't quite compensate for the fact that two superior animated adaptations (Lightyear Entertainment's Mia Farrow-narrated version and Disney's classic) already exist of Beauty and the Beast. True to the basic story, a good-hearted lass (Amy Irving) is stuck with an (in this case) very unthreatening looking beast (Tim Curry), removing a lot of the natural tension from the story. Perhaps the other two titles available--Alice & The Mystery of the Third Planet and The Twelve Months are better. Incidentally, besides lending his name, Baryshnikov neither appears nor speaks on the video. An optional purchase. Aud: K, E, P. (R. Pitman)
