The third entry in the popular and critically acclaimed PreSchool Power series (the first two were reviewed in our October, 1990 and December, 1991 issues, respectively), PreSchool Power 3 doesn't quite have the tightly-edited punch of its predecessors. But, hey, it's still head and shoulders above most similar fare. This time out the kids learn some more silly songs, and pick up a handful of new skills--such as skipping, making bubble mix, playing with scarves, mixing colors to create new colors, and making fans. One of the more impressive songs on the tape is called "Doctor Girl," and we watch as a young girl works diligently with her dolls to keep them in good health. As in the previous programs, some of the skills taught are Montessori-based, and all are both fun and within the grasp of pre-schoolers (although, occasionally, a project might require a little bit of adult help--such as making bread). Again, it's refreshing to see a program that builds self-confidence in young children by encouraging them to do, rather than force-feeding them some sugar-coated smarmy message pill. Children will surely benefit from learning the tasks and games presented on the tape, and adults will most likely find themselves peeking in. Highly recommended.
