Opening with a live action sequence, in which two young children named Louise and Lawrence search unsuccessfully for the scarlet tanager (a migratory songbird), this environmental short shifts to colorful animation as the kids are magically transported to the rainforests of Central and South America. Here, they see that the natural habitat is being destroyed to make way for people and development projects. As the trees go, so do the homes for the scarlet tanager and many other species. While this is much too brief a look at a very complex subject, and would not be a good choice for public libraries, this is recommended for elementary school children, K-6. (R. Pitman)
