Forget running Super Mario through Bowser's castle, the McCall family has their own fun hobby: they sew, and if this tape is any indication it looks as if they keep each other in stitches (get it? I was afraid so). Aimed at the novice seamstress and seamster (it's as refreshing to see a strapping young male behind the sewing machine, as a young female working road construction), Trish McCall and her nimble-fingered children take viewers into the daunting world of fabric selection (which can be pretty confusing), showing viewers how to choose and measure cloth. Back at the house, the crew begins to work: measuring, cutting from patterns, and assembling their creations on the sewing machine. Kids will learn how to make a t-shirt and a pair of shorts which (when coupled with a pierced tongue and a backwards ball cap) will place them at the height of teen fashion. A good project for families or students. Recommended. Aud: I, J, H, P. (R. Pitman)
