Onward Christian veggies! In the latest video-released episode from Veggie Tales, the phenomenally popular series of computer-animated Christian morality tales for youngsters, Junior (a young asparagus) accidentally breaks his dad's prize bowling plate and, prompted by a strange creature named Fibrilious Minimus ("but you can call me Fib"), proceeds to tell a wee bit of a whopper: namely, that his playfriend Laura broke the plate. When Laura cries foul, Junior sidesteps into ever more grandiose lies ("cows with the brains of space aliens..."), each of which have the curious effect of making little Fib exponentially grow in size and strength, until the sleepy little town of Bumblyburg is itself threatened by the gigantic purple monster. Fortunately, Bumblyburg has a resident Batman-type, an...um...cucumber named Larry-Boy (he wears--in a very nice sartorial touch--toilet plungers on the sides of his head), who squares off against the asparagus-napping Fib and saves the day. Young viewers (and one embarrassed asparagus) learn that it's better to tell the truth, in a beautifully animated video which--uncharacteristically true to a marketing claim--"mixes Sunday morning values with Saturday morning fun." Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Four other titles are also available, including: Dave and the Giant Pickle, The Toy That Saved Christmas, Are You My Neighbor? and God Wants Me to Forgive Them !?!, with two more scheduled for release in June: A Very Silly Sing-Along and Josh and the Big Wall. Aud: K, P. (R. Pitman)
