For those of you who've been wondering just how hot glass is in the making, it's "hotter than hell." If you think that's an exaggeration, consider this: glass "freezes" at 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit; which means that an artist working with glass has to make several trips to the furnace for a quick warm-up. It's the time element that makes glass a 4-dimensional art form for Ann Corcoran, one of three artists at work in filmmaker Kenneth Grimes' beautifully lensed documentary on making art glass. Corcoran, Michael Nourot, and David Lindsay are all seen performing the complex ballet of turning sand and chemicals into stunning glass vases, plates, and decorative pieces. Gorgeous cinematography, a pulsing soundtrack, and artful editing make Alchemy in Light a wonderful viewing experience whether or not one is a glass aficionado. Highly recommended. (R. Pitman)
