America--Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek and Gerry Beckley--burst onto the music scene in 1972 with their eponymous debut album, featuring the multi-layered acoustic guitar anthem "Horse With No Name." Captured live for German television's noted music program Ohne Filter on June 16, 1999, the nimble fingered guitar trio--backed by a bass player and drummer--serve up a winsomely nostalgic 15-song set of mini-classics, including "Horse," "Ventura Highway," "Daisy Jane," "Tin Man," "Lonely People," "The Last Unicorn," "Sandman" and "Sister Golden Hair" on an intimate stage in clear Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. In fact, the only notable hits omitted here are "I Need You," "Muskrat Love" and "Woman Tonight." Short, but solid, this acoustic set (with the exception of the electric guitars on "Sandman") finds the '70s pop/folk favorites in excellent form, and is highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
