From the Rockford, Illinois band that put the "live" back in live recordings with their smash 1979 album Live at Budokan, pop rock '70s and '80s sensation Cheap Trick, fronted by Robin Zander on vocals and Rick Nielsen on guitar, perform 14 songs in this 1998 concert at Chicago's Metro. They want you to want them on signature hits such as "I Want You to Want Me," "Surrender," and "Dream Police," and are joined by former Smashing Pumpkins members Billy Corgan and D'Arcy on "Mandocello" and "If You Want My Love," respectively. Extras include an entertaining commentary track with the four band members silhouetted in MST3K style at the bottom of the picture, a five-minute interview, and text liner notes by fan Corgan. While Cheap Trick: Music for Hangovers is a solid enough Dolby Digital 5.1 sound concert, it's a case of too little too late when compared with Cheap Trick: Silver (Image, $24.99), a double-disc live DVD made the following year, with twice the music and all the hits (including the obvious omission here "Ain't That a Shame"). Optional. Aud: (R. Pitman)
