Let's face it, American Bandstand is an American institution. And this tape is more than music, it's history. There are--some of them the first--televised performances of Bill Haley and the Comets ("Rock Around the Clock"), The Big Bopper ("Chantilly Lace"), Jerry Lee Lewis ("Great Balls of Fire"), The Silhouettes ("Get a Job"), Dion and the Belmonts ("Teenager in Love"), Mark Dinning ("Teen Angel"), the Everly Brothers ("Cathy's Clown"), Sam Cooke ("You Send Me"), and Chubby Checker ("The Twist"), among others. The tape also features rare footage of Buddy Holly and the Crickets performing "Peggy Sue". In addition to the music, it's a lot of fun to see what everyone looked like back then, and refreshingly innocent to see established 'stars' coming to grips with this new thing called 'television' (most performances were recorded in 1958 and 1959). Recommended. (See THE ADVENTURES OF TEDDY RUXPIN for availability).
