Fans will be delighted to hear that reports of the Grateful Dead's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Like V.C. Andrews, they just keep cranking out posthumous recordings/DVDs one after another. This very generous helping (3 hours plus!) of vintage Dead captured live in concert in the summer of 1990, finds the band delivering memorable renditions of such hits as "Touch of Grey," "Throwing Stones," "Row Jimmy," and "Mama Tried" among the two dozen tunes, as well as a haunting cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," sung by Jerry Garcia, that might make you a wee bit teary-eyed. Although the vocals could have been louder, the sound is not bad given the stadium setting and the Dead's lackadaisical approach to hi-fidelity. Recommended. (R. Pitman)
