"It's a string of minor hits from the 1980s," announces Mark King (former bass player/lead singer for '80s pop/R&B band Level 42) about two-thirds of the way through this 1999 filmed for German TV, hour-long, 12-song set, before launching into crowd-pleasing renditions of "Lessons in Love" and "Something About You." Given that Level 42 made a much larger impression on the other side of the big pond than stateside, Mark King in Concert is likely to have limited appeal; still King's virtuoso bass playing on "Mr. Pink," as well as spirited performances of "Running in the Family," "The Chinese Way," and others, makes this pristine Dolby Digital 5.1-backed concert a strong optional purchase for larger music collections.
