Falling somewhere between environmental statements and an eco-travel film, The National Parks & Wildlands of Costa Rica, offers a brief general introduction, followed by a methodical overview of each of the 15 national parks and coastal wildland areas of Costa Rica, including Cocos Island (the locale which reputedly inspired the Michael Crichton novel Jurassic Park). With neither helpful tips to truly aid the interested eco-tourist, nor enough in-depth examination of Costa Rica's environmental plight, the video lacks a strong sense of purpose. Still, the wonderful scenes of poison dart frogs, scarlet macaws, and roaring howler monkeys, are fun to watch and therefore those with larger nature collections may want to consider. (R. Pitman)
