Focusing on the late Indian music master Ustad Yunus Husain Khan, The Story of a Musician combines interview and concert footage with city scenery of Old Delhi to discuss the legacy of Indian music (handed down from father to son), explore Khan's musical school known as the Agra gharana, and trace Khan's story as a musician and instructor at the University of Delhi. Filmed by Arundhati Neuman, the program--while offering some sights of life in India--is a fairly low-budget production that is unlikely to appeal to general audiences. The interviews with scholars assume a working knowledge of the intricacies of the social aspects of Indian music. Students of Indian music might appreciate this (though the concert footage plays second fiddle to the interviews), but for most this is an unnecessary purchase. (R. Pitman)
