Tropical Rainforest, originally shown in IMAX theaters, is a beautifully filmed majestic tribute to the natural wonder of the tropical rainforest. Shot in Costa Rica and Malaysia, this lovely film uses simple narration to tell the story of life (and death) in the rainforest, beginning with the extinction of the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago up to the current destruction. In addition to the stunning panoply of indigenous wildlife which flits, crawls, and swings across the screen, the film also includes interviews with researchers working in the rainforest. One women rappels up and down trees like she was Spiderman, while another researcher uses an inflated wheel-like structure to rest on the rainforest roof, so to speak, and study the tree tops. Presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota, Tropical Rainforest is a particularly good introduction for younger viewers to what's happening in the world's tropical rainforests. Recommended. (R.
