Well, I got my Christmas wish this year (see VL 11/94): the 1984 TV version starring George C. Scott. It's one of the best, and available for the first time on video. Also: Miracle on 34th Street *** (113 min., $14.98), the 1994 rewrite by John Hughes is reasonably entertaining. (R. Pitman)
