Although I personally thought that Kitties was looking a little long in the whiskers when I saw it on the London stage earlier this year, this "commemorative edition" of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical, based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, is (warning: bad pun ahead) the cat's meow. Credit director David Mallet for adding real visual punch to the pristine re-recording of the music, presented here in room encompassing Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. For true Cats fans, the DVD also features a half hour "making of" documentary. For those who didn't pick this up when it was initially released on DVD (and if you did, don't upgrade--the two are virtually identical), this is highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
